Organizing Ribbon

My friend 'Sophia' recently show me a new way to organize ribbon.  (She got the idea from Becca - click here to see).  I really liked the idea as I had 1/2 my ribbon hanging up and the other 1/2 stacked on a shelf.  Doing it "the new way" freed up my space and helped me to see what I have a lot easier too.  Now when I go to pick ribbon for a project -- I can easily spot what I want.
I recycled some cereal/cracker boxes for this project.  I cut them in rectangles 3 x 2 1/8 in.
On most of my cards I wound one spool of ribbon, but if it was extra thin or didn't have much left on it I fit two or more to one card (pictured below).

Reminds me of my DMC boxes with all my DMC thread organized just like this! I put mine in shoe box lids so as to keep them open and accessible and because they wouldn't fit in my small drawers -- the thick ones were too tall!

I had a few spools of ribbon that were just too big to do up this way, so I hung them up on my shelves.  I was lucky enough to find most of these big spools at the thrift store (at one time or another) for a few cents!

Thanks 'Sophia' for suggesting this "new" method!

I Challenge You Wednesday - Rose Stamp

My friend - "Sophia" picked the challenge for this week.  We were to use the rose stamp from Creative Stamping Nature's Beauty set.  Here's my take on it:
I actually made two cards just alike --- only difference is the colors and fabric stickers.
Here's how they went together:
  1. I stamped the Rose Stamp (Creative Stamping Nature's Beauty set) with versa mark onto white cardstock and chalked it with orange over burgundy chalks.
  2. Stamped the clock face (got from Paper Wishes) in versa mark and embossed with black embossing powder
  3. I then cut this out with my circle nestabilities and added a background paper with the scallop nestabilities
  4. The clock hands are Sizzix dies -- #1 and #4
  5. I then cut my white cardstock to size and embossed with my Tim Holtz Collage Embossing Folder (Sizzix)
  6. This I inked over in orange (card #1) or brown (card #2) ink
  7. I then cut the Eiffel Tower out with my Sizzix die and embossed it with the Script embossing folder (Provo Craft) then I inked over that in brown or orange ink
  8. All that was left to do was add some fabric Travel stickers from The Creative Touch
Hope you enjoyed my take on this beautiful rose stamp -----Looks like my friend forgot to get hers up today ---whenever she does you can click here to see what she made with her roses!

Very Simple Fall Card

Not every card has to be a masterpiece - right?  Well at least that's the way it is around here.  I can't possibly keep up with all there is to do and turn out  masterpieces every day too!  Lots of days I don't have time to paper craft at all --- so on the days I do I have to make the time count!
This is a simple fall card I made using a coloring page as the basis.
Supplies used:
  • Basket of apples coloring page from Coloring Book Fun
  • Crayola markers (to color image with)
  • Red, White, Green cardstock
  • Moroccan Screen embossing folder (Provo Craft)
  • Sentiment (Studio G)
  • Mary Engelbreit photo corner
  • Red ribbon for bow

Happy Birthday

So here's the birthday card for the "cat-lover" I posted about yesterday! This is only the second time I've used that Kitty Tiles stamp, but I'm very pleased with the results.
Originally I intended to give this to her from our family, BUT her husband stopped by yesterday and ask me if I had time to make a card for his wife since "she loves your cards so much."
Wasn't too hard to personalize this one for him since it was already made.  I'll be posting the one from us next week.........so come back then!
Supplies used:
  • Kitty Tiles (Hampton Arts)
  • Versa Mark (stamped kitty image in)
  • Pink and Green Chalks (chalked over kitty image)
  • Pink Cardstock (matted kitty image on)
  • Happy Birthday Sentiment (Distinctly Classic - Creative Stamping)
  • Pink Embossing Powder (both sentiments)
  • Poppies Die (Provo Craft)
  • DP - Classics (K & Company)
  • Bit of crocheted lace (bow)

Recycled Calendar - The Cat's Meow

This is one of the projects I intended to have done for the challenge yesterday --- to used recycled products on your cards.  I have a friend who requests homemade cards for her birthday every year and this year she ask me to make mini cat cards for her.
Another friend posted yesterday and the day before about turning calendar pages into envelopes  --- so I used the thumbnail images on the cards and the matching big pages for the envelopes.
I'm thinking my "cat-loving" friend is going to be extra pleased to have the matching envelopes -- hope so!
Here's the cards with their matching envelopes:
I lined the envelopes so you can't tell they were calendar pages ---- here's a view of the back of one of them:
For the most part I used scraps from my scrap bin to make these cards --- so you could say I recycled lots of things!

Other supplies (besides scraps) used:
  • Fleur de lis border punch
  • MS Heart border punch
  • Threading Water border punch (Fiskars)
  • Cat Sayings stamps (Studio G)

I Challenge You Wednesday - Recycle

I picked the challenge for this week -- recycle.  Anything recycled was fair game --- boxes, buttons, ribbons, packaging, images from calendars or magazines etc.
Unfortunately I also had very little time to do anything!  I did need a quick gift for a friend whose having complications after surgery, so I whipped up this gift container from a recycled strawberry carton.  It's not what I had intended or planned, but since Wednesday is here and this is all I have done --- here it is!
Without the bow ---
  • Tim Holtz stamps
  • Alphabet (Studio G)
  • Copper embossing powder
  • Blue ink
Inside -- fresh baked chocolate chip (and peanut butter/white chocolate chip) cookies!
Now go here to see what my friend created for the challenge this week.

Favorite Recipes

I have a stack of loose recipes right inside my cupboard door that are dishes I use all the time.  I've been wanting a way to organize them and yet keep them at my fingertips so I decided to convert this composition notebook into a "Favorite Recipe" book.  It's nothing fancy, but will serve the purpose..........
Supplies used:
  • Image/Recipe from an old calendar
  • Mary Engelbreit letters/cherry chipboard circle/checked photo squares
  • Red/Tan cardstock
  • Tab die cut (Provo Craft)
Now I shouldn't have to "dig through the stack" to find the recipe I'm looking for! These would make great gifts ---- especially if they came already full of someone's favorite dishes!
