School Themed Mini

I was asked to be part of a school themed blog hop in the month of August.  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to participate due to having surgery right before the hop.  I actually had my project completed last month --- before I knew of the moved date -- so here's the School Themed Mini Album I came up with.
(You can click the pictures for a closer view)
  Detail of that flashcard pullout:
One of the fun things about this album is the fact that most of the embellishments were free!
I printed them from various FREE sites around the web --- and I'll be sharing those sites with you at the end of this post.
The album was actually a chipboard album set --- given to me by a friend.
I enjoy creating albums even more when I have a whole set of matching papers already cut to size and ready to go!
I wanted my album to have a vintage feel to it, and thought the colors of these papers lent themselves to that feel. Something different than the customary primary colors.
You'll also note that nearly every page has some sort of pocket with tags and other embellishments that pull out of it.
And now for some fun freebie links in the school theme --

Word Art Wednesday

Thank you so much for all your sweet comments and prayers for my disc surgery one week ago today.
Surgery went well and I even got to go home the same day!
Recovery is slow but steady -- still plenty of pain, some nausea and lots of rest.
Missing all my friends in "blogland" -- but hopefully I'll be back sometime next month!
AND NOW:
My fourth Wednesday as a guest designer at
Word Art Wednesday.
I decided to incorporate today's verse into a notebook cover.
I cut the pages out of a regular notebook and trimmed them to size.
(Look for them at "back to school" time -- I got mine for 19 cents)
For the back cover I used a plain piece of yellow cardstock

Supplies
  • Free word art (below)
  • DP - Classics (K & Company)
  • Poppies die (Provo Craft)
  • Yellow Cardstock
  • Green eyelets
  • Green, polka-dot ribbon
    • stems and leaves of flowers
  • Blue ribbbon
  • Black felt tip pen & Sharpie blue marker
    • faux stitching
  •  Green rhinestones
    • centers of flowers
  • Ornate label #3 (Sizzix)
  • Comb binding machine
Here are some FREE printables for you using today's verse

Little Clutch

Sharing a little "welcome gift" I made up for missionary Sally Sebo who shared about her passion (orphans in Romania) last Thursday night. You can't listen to her presentation without being stirred -- she's probably my absolute favorite missionary speaker!
I wanted to make up a welcome basket for her, but since she is only in the states for a few months every couple years - and a lot of that time is spent traveling around and sharing about her work - I wanted to keep the gifts simple and light so as to not overload her suitcase on her return trip.
I figured that she could always use some snacks on the road, and since I like to include at least one thing that isn't "consumable" I opted for a small clutch.
I used this tutorial from A Rosie Sweet Home as a basis for my clutch.
I didn't have any extra place mats laying around at this time, so I made up something similar (though smaller) with some jean material and a pretty plaid.
Someday, when I get the time I'll make you up a tutorial of how I did mine.
Here's what I included in it:
Gum
Altoids
Chap stick
Lotion
Germ X
While I'm sharing about Sally's visit --- here's a pretty fruit basket one of my generous and thoughtful friends made up to help in entertaining her! It was as delicious as it was beautiful!
